Cấu trúc Used to là dạng cấu trúc khá đơn giản, giúp mọi học sinh ghi điểm trong các bài kiểm tra. Tuy nhiên có bao nhiêu cấu trúc used to bạn đã biết chưa? I. Cấu trúc Used to là gì?

Cấu trúc Used to được dùng để nói về việc 1 thói quen, trạng thái, sự kiện đã từng xảy ra trong quá khứ nhưng đã chấm dứt và không còn đúng ở hiện tại nữa. Cấu trúc này thường mang ý so sánh giữa quá khứ và hiện tại.

• I used to go to school by bus, now I go by bike. (Trước đây thì tôi đi xe bus tới trường, bây giờ thì tôi đi bằng xe máy.)

→ Hành động đi xe bus chỉ có trong quá khứ và hiện tại không còn nữa

Phủ định

S + didn’t use to + V(inf - nguyên thể)

• John didn’t use to clean the house everyday when he lived alone. (John thường không dọn nhà mỗi ngày khi mà anh ấy sống 1 mình.)

→ Nói về thói quen ngày xưa của John là anh ta không thường dọn nhà mỗi ngày.

Nghi vấn

Did + S + use to + V(inf - nguyên thể)

• Did he use to come home this late? (Anh ấy có thường về nhà muộn như thế này không?)

→ Hỏi về thói quen về nhà muộn của anh ta

II. Công thức cấu trúc Be used to

Cấu trúc to Be used to nói về việc ai đó đã quen với việc phải làm gì hoặc quen với cái gì. Thường khi sử dụng to Be used là nói rằng việc/sự việc đó đã không còn khó khăn với bạn nữa vì bạn đã làm nó quá nhiều lần

Be + S + used to + V_ing/N

• Are you used to going to the gym three times a week? (Bạn đã quen với việc đi tập gym 3 lần 1 tuần chưa?)

III. Công thức cấu trúc Get used to

Tương tự như Be used to, cấu trúc Get used to được dùng để nói ai đó đã quen với việc phải làm gì hoặc quen với cái gì.

Trợ động từ + S + get + used to + V_ing/N

• Did he get used to living abroad alone? (Anh ấy đã quen với việc phải sống ở nước ngoài 1 mình chưa?)

Lưu ý:

Trong tiếng Anh, có 12 trợ động từ là: be, have, do, can, may, will, must, need, shall, ought (to), used (to), dare. Trong đó có:

• 9 động từ khuyết thiếu: can, may, must, will, shall, need, ought (to), dare và used (to)
• 3 trợ động từ thông dụng nhất là: be, do, have.

Ví dụ:

• The children are swimming in the pool. (Bọn trẻ đang bơi trong bể bơi.)
• She could play the piano when she was five. (Cô ấy có thể chơi piano khi cô ấy mới 5 tuổi.)
