There has been a lot of talk about SSDs recently due to their high performance, but it comes at a cost. What if there was a way to combine the best of both worlds? How about the raw speed of an SSD with the capacity and price of a regular HDD? Well Seagate might have just the solution for you…

Seagate have just released 2 new hybrid drives which give you the responsiveness of an SSD, but with the capacity of a HDD at a price not to different from a normal mechanical HDD. Today I will be taking a look at both options available, the first is a 1TB 2.5” laptop SSHD (Solid State Hybrid Drive) which is designed for use in laptops but could easily be used in a desktop. It features a 5400RPM platter which should be quieter than say a 7200RPM drive and this particular drive also features SATA 6GB/s interface. The other drive up for review today is the 3.5” desktop version which also features a SATA 6GB/s interface and comes in 1TB, 2TB and 4TB variations.
