Dermadoctor kakadu vitamin c serum reviews

Hey guys! As it gets colder and drier here in the US getting that glass skin is harder and harder. About a year ago I stumbled upon this serum, and my winter skincare regime has never been the same. However, the price tag is nothing to laugh at. So is it worth it?

Claims:

On Sephora’s website they say the serum is

“A high potency, lightweight serum that provides an antiaging concentrate of 20 percent stabilized vitamin C enriched with kakadu plum, ferulic acid, and vitamin E.”

In terms of effect, the serum is supposed to

“Indulge your skin with one of the richest natural vitamin C sources known on earth. This luxurious, lightweight serum helps brighten and leave skin feeling more elastic, smoother, softer, and firmer. It helps improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles while the potent antioxidant, vitamin C, helps protect skin from environmental aggressors by fighting free radical damage.”

Kakadu is a type of plum, and it has about 55 times as much vitamin C as a Florida orange so it does seem like you’re getting what you pay for. But more about that as we look at the ingredients.

Ingredients:

Water, 3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid, Ethoxydiglycol, Glycerin, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Butylene Glycol, Citric Acid, Terminalia Ferdinandiana (Kakadu) Fruit Extract, Epigallocatechin Gallate, Tocopherol, Alcohol, Sodium Citrate, Phenoxyethanol, Triethanolamine, Ferulic Acid, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Disodium EDTA, Hexylene Glycol, Panthenol, Sodium Hyaluronate.

This product doesn’t contain any parabens, sulfates, or phthalates, which is pretty great. I don’t see any ingredients that concern me, not even the alcohol. The alcohol is most likely a fatty alcohol, which is actually extremely moisturizing. (If you want to learn more about alcohols, click here -> //wp.me/p8C4Mg-cl ) The ingredients that do stand out to me are the Castor Oil, which is really great for moisturizing, the Kakadu Fruit Extract, the Ferulic Acid, and Tocopherol. As mentioned before, Kakadu Fruit Extract is excellent for vitamin C, which is said to be extremely effective toward brightening the skin. The Ferulic Acid is an antioxidant that works to reduce the development of fine lines, spots, and wrinkles. Finally, Tocopherol (or vitamin E) is an excellent moisturizer for dry, patchy areas of the skin. These ingredients are pretty concentrated in the serum and produce a really effective solution.

Price: 15mL or 0.5 oz

Sephora: $95 (for 30mL or 1 oz) Free shipping!

Costco: $47 (for a two pack of 15mL or 0.5oz) Free shipping!

Ulta: $95 (for 30mL or 1oz) Free shipping!

So as you can tell, the Costco price tag is by far the best. Although the serum comes in two bottles instead of one, you are still paying almost half the price of the other two for a total of 1 oz of product. This is why I love Costco.

Pretty thick consistency

The Run-Down:

The reason I love this serum so much is because there are days when I feel like my skin really can’t be rescued. No matter how much moisturizer I put on the dry patches, it still feels rough and scaly. Yet this serum works like nothing else I’ve ever tried, moisturizing my skin much more effectively than anything else. The scent is a little wonky but you adjust to it quickly, and it also does not sit on the skin. Plus, the serum has no added fragrance, so you know that fragrance is from natural ingredients. While the texture is really sticky and thick at first, it dissolves into the skin after a minute or so, leaving a really bouncy texture. After a few more minutes, the skin is just soft and supple. While I definitely wouldn’t use this in the summer (as a normal-combination skin kind of gal), it’s a lifesaver for the winter months. If you have super dry skin year round though, this might just become a staple.

Pros and Cons:

PROS

  • Incredibly moisturizing
  • Brightens skin
  • Very effective

CONS

  • Expensive

Who Should Use:

I would recommend this to anyone who is concerned about moisturizing, especially my dry skinned friends. If your normal moisturizers aren’t working for you, this might be exactly what you need. Also, this is super great for people with mature skin (ie. a great gift for you parents!)

Rating:

⭐⭐⭐⭐

4/5 stars

This serum has really grown on me as something that is really pricey but super worth it if you can save a little to splurge on this.
