Leave for 15-20 minutes and then wash off with lukewarm water. Recommended using 1-2 times a week. Today I’m rekindling with an old flame. I’m bringing back a brand that I loved very much. While Innisfree is no longer present in my life as it was before, it’s still a brand I hold dear to my heart because it was what started everything for me. And I’m actually throwing out a double review today. I’m reviewing not one but two products because they are from the same line and are made of the same key ingredient. If you’re into Korean skincare, you might have already heard of or seen one of them. You might have even used this wildly popular jar of goodness. I think it’s even found fame globally! Today we’re talking about pores. Pore problems will porever (sorry, sad attempt) be present in my life. While they are less problematic during the colder months, they’ve emerged again and hence so have my pore products.  Ages ago, I reviewed an extremely popular product by Innisfree, the Super Volcanic Pore Clay Mask. As one of their steady best-sellers, it got a whole new look and now claims to be not a 6 in 1 mask but a 10 in 1. Apparently it not only got a face lift, it also got revamped into a better formula that promises to do more for those pesky pores while softening, brightening, exfoliating the skin and even addressing one of the nations’s greatest concerns: fine dust. Innisfree Super Volcanic Pore Clay Mask 2XNot sure when this 2X version replaced the older one but gather it was in 2018? Please correct me if I’m wrong since I was digging around but couldn’t find a whole lot of info on the exact date of its release. I unfortunately never got around to finishing up the jar I had reviewed back in 2013. My husband used it to fill the space between the wall and shower curtain rod and eventually disposed of it thereafter. So here we are. The design looks somewhat similar so it didn’t get a serious face lift but supposedly a very powerful formula. This 10-in-1 clay mask is formulated with Jeju Volcanic Cluster Sphere™ that features twice more powerful adherence to sebum for intensive pore care. Addresses your skin with troublesome pore care such as pore tightening, sebum removal, exfoliating, blackhead removal and deep cleansing to fine dust clearing, cooling, skin softening, brightening and firming care, all at the same time. Triple exfoliation and fine dust care combined together! Smoothens and softens the skin with triple exfoliation from scoria capsules, walnut shell and AHA while providing a deep cleansing for fine dust inside the pores to help improve skin troubles. This 2X line is formulated with Jeju Volcanic Cluster Sphere™ that features twice more powerful adherence to sebum for intensive pore care. The older version of this Volcanic Pore Clay Mask included 6,020mg of Jeju volcanic clay clusters but this one boasts a figure of 52,280ppm. 1ppm is equivalent to 1mg/L. Don’t look at me, math is not my forte. For those who may be new to this product, what are these volcanic clusters and what are they capable of? They were formed from hot lava fragments when the volcanoes in Jeju Island erupted and solidified as clusters. They are “packed with minerals and have the power to absorb excess oil and impurities from pores”. If you look closely, you will be able to see granules in the actual mask, those are your Volcanic scoria capsules. As you can see below, the mask physically appears the same. It’s contained in the jar the same way it’s former version was. Many might be quick to throw away the plastic lid but I find that it keeps the product from hardening (a complaint I read of a lot) over time. My pore clay mask is still very creamy and easy to spread even though I’ve had it since last year. This may also be an improvement in the formula as well. The 2X is without a doubt creamier but it feels quite similar to the original. It’s easy to spread thin and will have a cooling sensation once it’s on your face. It does not crack. It does not tighten either so you can definitely wear this for 10 minutes while attending to whatever chores you might have or go about doing whatever you need to do. My face felt a whole lot cleaner after I washed off the mask and while my pores were not visibly smaller, I was still very satisfied with the way my skin felt and looked. I remember noticing less sebum production with the original Clay Mask after using it but didn’t note much of a difference with this one. What I felt and noticed was my skin was firmer and looked a tad bit brighter. Unfortunately, my pores didn’t look that different and it didn’t do anything for my blackheads. Since too much could be counterproductive, I would probably use this 1-2 times a week. Maybe 3 at most during the summer but watch your skin for signs of excessive sebum production to gauge how often it should be used. If you use this excessively, it might throw you natural oils off balance and encourage more oil production. Remember to thoroughly wash off the mask because clogged pores can potentially lead to breakouts and you don’t want that after investing all that time in cleaning them. Tone first for better results and moisturize afterwards! I will post a side by side comparison of this and the peel off mask below. Innisfree Super Volcanic Pore Peel Off Mask 2XThis is like a “lite” version of the Clay Mask. Extremely lite version of it, in fact, I’m not sure you need it at all if you already have the Clay Mask or intend on buying it. Unless you’re like me and just like to peel things off your skin. It works on your entire face or on areas where you have enlarged pores, excessive oil production, uneven skin tone/texture. No-wash volcanic scoria clay mask! Don’t wash, but peel off. Use on any specific area of your face or even the entire face. Refreshing extrusion from the pore! Peel off when your skin feels tight and the mask is dry. Dead skin cells and impurities are pulled out from the pores with a pleasant finish. The formula consists of volcanic clusters just like the clay mask and promises to remove skin impurities, cleanse and smooth rough skin texture. The product is housed in a tube with a cap as shown above. As you can see, the consistency below is quite sticky, so word of advice, move your hair away from your face. Tie it up, pull it back, do whatever you have to because once it adheres to the mask, it’s a pain to undo. This mask takes longer to dry so you’re going to need to wait a good 20-30 minutes before it’s ready to be peeled off. You can definitely thin this mask out to get an even application of it on your face. It’s incredibly easy to spread, the consistency is sticky but you can easily slide the mask around before it dries. I squeezed a bit too much for the swatch so it ended up not drying entirely (photo down below). Instructions: After cleansing, spread evenly on a dry face avoiding the eye and lip area, or on the desired spot. When the skin feels tight and the content is dry after 20-30 minutes, peel off slowly. Not gonna lie, this mask is incredibly fun to peel off. And I love examining it closely as if my eyes can microscopically pick up something from having it that close to them. There’s definitely a cooling sensation as the mask glides on but unlike the Clay Mask, there will be some tightening felt once it dries. But don’t expect it to pull out any blackheads. I read a lot of reviews from people who thought this would rid their blackhead woes but didn’t. I actually was expecting the same thing until I read carefully and realized it’s only meant to remove impurities and dead skin cells, giving the face a fresh feel. The good:

The Super Volcanic 2X line currently offers 4 products, the two you see here, a Clay Mousse Pack and a Stick Mask that looks like a deodorant stick. Below I’ve included photos of the two masks for a side by side comparison. I figured some might be interested in just investing in one so I decided to show you what they look like once they’re dried and ready to wash/peel off. Prior to writing the review, I thought the Peel Off Mask would probably take a backseat to the Clay Mask but I think it performs and holds it own fine. While it doesn’t promise to be a 10 in 1, you will get very similar results to the Clay Mask. I think if anything, the Clay Mask provides a deep cleanse and the Peel Mask works more on the surface. So it’s really up to you and what your skin concerns are. So there you have it, a very lengthy double review. Out of all the reviews I’ve posted since being back, this was my absolute favorite to put together. First of all, it’s a brand I’m very familiar with.
