What began, as the Working Men’s College is now known as the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT). During its inception in 1887, the Working Men’s College was a night school aimed at providing education in arts, science and technology to support industries. RMIT has a campus in Vietnam, where it was invited by the government to open its first foreign campus. RMIT has two international campuses in Vietnam and one in Barcelona. The Royal in front of the university’s name was added after World War II, when Queen Elizabeth II recognized it as the first Australian institute to provide tertiary education in 1954.
