Asus laptop shuts down when plugged in

I have this problem with my Asus S410U also referenced S14 in some websites. It has windows 10 64 bits with 8 Gb of RAM and only SSD disks

For two days now, it started shutting down as if it was suddenly unplugged. Then it wouldn’t start when trying to power it up.

At first I thought it was the battery that was discharged and thought I would charge it, plugging it didn’t charge it (the small led on the side didn’t light).

The only way that I managed to switch it on is by opening it up and disconnecting the battery (internal ), then if I reconnect the battery or plug the charger it works, but only for some time, then it shuts down without any notification with no time pattern)

This happens if the battery is connected or not, the charger is plugged or not, it doesn’t make any difference. I tried all possibilities.

I also have another installation of windows on another disk and tried it with no success. So it should not be software as the other windows in not up to date as I didn’t use it for a long time and it couldn’t be one of the latest windows updates.

I downloaded software to monitor CPU temperature (like CoreTemp https://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/) and it doesn’t reach higher than 55°C (approx 130 F)

I even tried to reset the CMOS battery, but I can’t find any on the motherboard!!!

I am confused as I can’t figure out what could possibly go wrong so suddenly.

Any idea could help

However,if I unplugg it when the laptop is already running, then the laptop would not shut down and it will run normally.

But if I unplugg it while it's shut down and I turn it back on, the laptop will shut down after I unlock the laptop. It's Asus.

System Model: X411UN

Here's a video about how it shuts down unexpectedly: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CpSABSufpjA

Normally if I unplug it with the laptop on, my battery should last at least 2 hours. While in the video, it shows me that 41 minutes remaining, which is already abnormal. And it turned off within 1 minute. The battery also displays 0% immediately for unknown reason. And I didn't do anything other than unlock the laptop.

Hello, so I have an ASUS ROG GL753VE, I received it from a friend and he gave it to me without the original charger. I bought a replacement for like $20 on amazon (correct voltage and everything) and the charger worked fine for about two days; I was able to plug it in and play all of my games, do my homework, etc. On the third day it randomly just powered off while I was playing CSGO. I thought maybe the laptop overheated but I turned it back on and just idled on my home screen and it eventually shut off again. I kept testing it out and every time the charger is plugged in it will power off no matter what I am doing. The laptop works fine on battery but as soon as it is plugged in for about 10 seconds it will shut off. Ive taken out the battery and tested it and the battery is not the issue. Im thinking it might be the replacement charger as it was only $20 and the actual manufacturer charger from ASUS is like $80. Ive read online that it is either 1. The charger or 2. My motherboard. Is there anyway I can check make sure it is not my motherboard so I dont waste my time and money ordering the manufacturer charger?

It's possible that the output voltage is not correct and the laptop shuts down to prevent the damage. Test your laptop with another known good power adapter. If the problem still exists, even after replacing the adapter, most likely it's the motherboard failure. Replace the motherboard.

If you have the original charger....does it tell you what wattage it is? Having the wrong wattage

could be the problem...if the new one is different.

So sad that my posts are being removed or edited after I give an accurate assessment of the situation

Cheap garbage Chinese chargers bought anywhere can melt, catch fire, or self destruct even when the current ratings are listed appropriatly for the device it will power

Chinese batteries are also improperly rated and have burned houses down in the United States

The reason your charger was priced at $20 is because it is GARBAGE!

Note to Admin:  This is an ACCURATE assessment of the problem

Not specific to Amazon.

Thank you! The charger even stopped charging the laptop consistently (would just toggle from charging to not charging; charging light would blink instead of being solid) I am returning the charger but since the OEM charger is about $80 on their website I decided to sell the laptop. Im hoping the new owner does not run into the same mistake as me and tries returning it for being faulty. I also hope the charger did not damage the laptop in any way. If all goes well Im going to put the money towards building a new pc. I wanted to try owning a laptop for once but maybe it wasnt meant to be.
Asus laptop shuts down when plugged in

Last week I can still use this laptop while charging or even if the charger is plugged in. After a month, it got drained and after an overnight charging, when I open it the next day, plugged the charger in, it won't start. But if I remove the charger, it would turn on. One thing also I noticed is that, If I plug in the charger, the charger indicator will move up and down for only 10 seconds and then stop...and then after 1 or 2 more minutes, the power will shut down or hibernate i guess.. Can you help me guys..do I need to take this to a technician? Or is there an alternative trouble shooting that I can start with.
Thank you!!!

Well, it should not power off when connected to the charger, which means that there is an intermittent fault either on the charger or the Laptop's power circuit. You won't know which unless you either buy another charger or perhaps borrow one from someone with a similar laptop. Sometimes an old battery can cause problems, but the fact that the laptop fails with only the charger connected would rule that out of the equation for now...

Sounds like the charger is faulty. If you can borrow a multimeter, check the voltage on the jack plug. (Red lead to centre and black to outer sleeve). Should be around 19Volts. Otherwise buy a new one on Ebay, they're not expensive. (Buy one without a mains lead/plug, you'll be able to re-use your old one) Another possibility is the charging circuit on your Laptop's Motherboard has failed, and that generally means a new board. (expensive!)

Thank you dodger46 for the idea. Just this afternoon, I removed the battery and try to plug in the charger only..it worked for an hour..then i shut it down and went out..when i came back i tried to switch the laptop on still without the battery, just to see what will happen..it will power up for just 5 seconds and then shut down. tried it five times..still the same..right now i put back the battery and recharge it..do you think you have an idea what should i do first? i don't want to go straight to a technician without understanding everything..hope to hear from u more..
