STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A Staten Island public high school is the number one best public high school in New York State and New York City, according to a new 2024 ranking. Show Niche, a website dedicated to ranking and reviewing schools across the country, released its list of the best public high schools for 2024. It included nationwide rankings, as well as state and local rankings. Now in its ninth year, the rankings include updated data for 94,058 public schools, 30,809 private schools, and 12,192 school districts nationwide. Staten Island Technical High School has ranked first as the best public high school in the city and state. While traditional rankings rely almost exclusively on metrics like test scores and academic performance, Niche’s rankings combine user input — ratings from current students, alumni and parents — with quantitative data from sources like the U.S. Department of Education to evaluate teachers, resources and facilities, extracurricular activity opportunities and more. The 2024 Best Schools rankings include 7,375 newly ranked public schools, 1,433 newly ranked private schools, and 364 newly ranked school districts. Staten Island’s District 31 — which encompasses the entire borough of public schools — ranked the 4th best district in New York City. It also ranked 94th in the best school districts in New York State.
